Hasbro did a better job on these Jedi fighters than they should have. This looks way too cool for what it is. The Jedi Interceptor is a stylized nightmare blend of a TIE fighter and Jedi Starfighter. I have no idea why they chose those two distinctively opposite ships for this design. However what doesn’t compute with me in the design doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate its role in the opening scene in Episode 3.
Most starfighters to date have one linear direction in their design. The X-Wing and rebel fighters are designed along the x axis like modern jet fighters. TIEs are made for the y axis to give the appearance of spinning around and firing weapons from the axis on z. The Jedi Interceptor has lines for both x and y giving the appearance of greater agility than those previous examples. Episode 3 confirms this design as the smallest possible vehicle to ferry Jedi Knights into a position for precision strikes to turn the tide of a space battle. I’d like to see a Sith fighter that starts on z…if that’s even possible.
What’s great about this Hasbro model the scale is right where it should be and all that detail on the hull. It was a joy to place all those battle damage stickers. I haven't bought any modern Star Wars vehicles excluding speeder bikes, because of the size involved. This one’s a keeper and I’m glad I finally opened it yesterday after I had it stowed for a year.
