I’ve always liked Barry more than Wally though Wally has more of a sense of humor and a fun frat boy attitude. Kind of funny though why I prefer Barry can be expressed in Wally’s own words when he compared Batman to Superman in his title book a couple years ago. In that thought balloon Wally goes against conventional lore and admits that in his opinion Superman must be smarter than Batman because Superman has gone to the trouble of making a private life for himself providing a sensible balance between super and the man. Batman always had a struggle to maintain a secret identity and more often than not Bruce Wayne exists as another mask for undercover work.
Wally never had a secret id until the reboot a while back. Barry was a police forensics investigator (think CSI) who went about his job and private life until a Rogue showed up. If he were to be revamped from the campy style of the 70’s Barry would be written has having one foot in the seedy superpowered underworld grit like Batman. As Flash he would zip through the streets and be celebrated by Keystone City as the favorite hero from the Midwest. He kept the peace in the city and finally killed Professor Zoom to save his wife. He was a lot like Hal and in fact they are best friends. Barry never did much to bring an edge to personality preferring a job well done to be its own reward.
Unfortunately most audiences will probably prefer wit and speed tricks with their Flash comics instead of chronicles of a real hero.
