April 30th, YO JOE!

Official Press Release
The world’s first action figure comes home to Rhode Island for the 17th annual G.I. JOE Convention, hosted by the G.I. JOE Collectors’ Club and Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). To celebrate the homegrown hero and its fans, Rhode Island Governor, Donald L. Carcieri, proclaimed today as
“G.I. JOE Day”
as Rhode Island schoolchildren were on hand for the celebration in the State House rotunda. The Governor was also joined by Hasbro’s President and CEO, Brian Goldner, as well as 250 parachuting G.I. JOE action figures that descended from the upper level of the domed structure, kicking off the official and largest convention of G.I. JOE enthusiasts.

Pulp Terror Done Right

Yes terrorism finally glanced in the direction of paulnuts where most conspiratorial anti-government policy originates. Courtesy of GIJoe #155 1/2 which continues the Marvel plotline and details Cobra's masterfully ironic 'lurch to the right' after the Joe team was deactivated in 1994.

COBRACON

5 Cobra Commander Terror Plots That Might Actually Work
Texas Governor Rick Perry "advocating secession" with the Tenth Amendment? Liberal bias in Cracked magazine sure to turn up again in Rise of Cobra.

I'll by the DVD Someday

I have zero stake in seeing this movie succeed.

Most comic movies do pretty well because they retell the origin of any manner of peripheral noir cartoon characters based on some kind of social cliche.

GIJoe: Rise of Cobra will succeed in that sense because it was made for anyone who has not seen the cartoon aside from the theme song or the occasional “doll” sold for actual money on ebay, by grafting dialogue from the Marvel comic into the usual sci-fi eco-tech seen in every other popcorn flick of the summer.

The body armor in G.I. JOE looks like Robocop and Iron Man had hot monkey sex all night and gave birth to these metal suits.

Come friends, let us gather before the silver screen under the banner of multiculturalism and save the world from neoconservative tyranny.

I remember reading the comic where Cobra were the ones with the supertechology and the Joes fought back and won using only their .223 guts and patriotism. At least in the cartoon the Joes could set their laser rifle buttstock on the ground and salute the flag any time they wanted to.

I'm not going to go into the plot of G.I. Joe because there are a few surprises that I don't want to bump against and ruin, but the film does indeed show us how COBRA was formed.

ROC Baroness is a textbook homegrown terrorist, bridezilla stood up then involved in “ultra right-wing” espionage to avenge her spoiled honor. I don't watch the gossip network so WHO GIVES A DAMN. In this scene Duke&Rip, in spite of their optimized radness, are defeated by their own hubris. Oh folly the American military, hot damn that white chick is heroic.

In short, ROC will succeed for all the wrong reasons and still be abused by state media as anti-military propaganda.

Here's a job for real life special forces and it's not that mystical alien humping eugenics bullcrap.

Hell yeah I'm glad the movie got something right!

Awesomely Adequate

Harry Knowles always has a positive perspective on pop culture and I'm sure a lot of fans appreciate his GIJoe review. I'll sum it up “it's all about the toys.”

CGI's kinda blatant and too bad the Joe movie's not more realistic but aw well, my customs are, heh.

Woooo Scarlett....

Hey these Joes look pretty cool but they got no gear!

These guys have gear. They're better than the guys without gear because they can carry ammo and shoot back. That's what makes them real American heroes. (I wrote that paragraph at a 5th grade level so adult Mexicans can read my words without the anxiety that I was persecuting them in any way.)

Camo combat shirt is what the Joes should wear anyway since it looks like an improvement on their 1983 gear.
