Indy 4 Earns $56 Million in 2 Days

After earning $25 million in its Thursday debut, the Steven Spielberg-directed movie brought in another $31 million Friday.

Indiana Jones will need a strong weekend finish to top the year's biggest hit so far, Iron Man, which pulled in $98.6 million domestically in its first weekend.

$151M Holiday Weekend; Spielberg-Lucas Find $270M Worldwide

Indy's PG-13 fourquel opened at 12:01 AM Thursday into 4,260 theaters in North America and also day and date in 61 foreign territories (except Japan). Paramount saw some weakness in the tracking among teens. But that was made up for by nostalgia among adults: the problem is that those older moviegoers generally wait until the 2nd or 3rd weekend to screen a flick. In the end, none of these concerns mattered: Indy 4 kept piling up the box office dollars.

The most recent Indiana Jones film more than recouped its big budget with an estimated $311 million in global box office sales through the long weekend, according to studio estimates Monday.
